Backup your BlackBerry

There isn’t really any excuse for not backing up your BlackBerry. In fact BlackBerry make it really quite easy for you when you use the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. If you don’t have the software, you can access it online via the BlackBerry.com site or you should also have a copy in the kit the phone came with. Its a 4 step process which is generally very very easy. And it takes less than a minute:

  1. Connect your BlackBerry device to your computer.
  2. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  3. Click Backup and Restore.
  4. You can now perform one of the following actions:
    • To back up all your device data, click Back up.
    • To back up specific device data, click Advanced. In the Device databases section, click a database. Click the left arrow icon. On the File menu, click Save As.
    • If your device contains at least 128-MB of on-board device memory, to back up files that you saved to your device, verify that mass storage mode is turned on. Click Options. Click Back up on-board device memory. Click OK. Click Back up.

Your data is now safe, so should you lose your BlackBerry, your data will not go with it, well it will but you can atleast retrieve it.

The Blackberry Backup process features an interesting option that you might consider using. The schedular process allows you to decide when the backup takes place. You simply set that your backup occurs every “x” days.

Scheduling Options
To access the “Backup and Restore Options” screen, press “Options” button.

Now do yourself a favour and backup the BlackBerry file with Carbonite so that you know that even if your PC/laptop died that you could get all of your data back.
