Storage to save your digital life
Australian IT ran an article yesterday on our Digital Life and the need to store files securely. They also included a detailed section on online storage covering Carbonite. You can read the whole story here.
One, called Carbonite (www.carbonite.com.au), offers unlimited storage for $79.99 a year.
To use Carbonite, you’ll need to download and install a small software application. You’re then offered the choice of backing up the contents of your My Documents folders, your entire PC, or manually selecting files for backup.
Once this is done, Carbonite automatically starts backing up. The initial backup can take a long time, but once it is complete only new files and changes to existing files are transferred.
For easy monitoring, Carbonite adds colour-coded dots to each file on your PC so you can easily tell which have been backed up. A green dot next to the file’s name means it is backed up, yellow means it’s queued for backup and no dot means the file has not been selected for backup.
Making use of both in-home and online storage gives the maximum protection for files.
If you value your digital life, it’s worth making the effort to keep it protected.
