What Carbonite is NOT

Simple backup that just works.

Carbonite is a fantastic, simple, and secure backup service, however, Carbonite does not include some services often confused with backup.

File Storage – Carbonite is not a place to move files to free up space on your computer. Any files that are removed from your hard drive, are kept on our servers for 30 days (just in case you accidentally deleted it) and then we delete it too.
Program or System Backup – Carbonite backs up your irreplaceable personal files, including photos, documents, music, etc. By default, Carbonite does NOT back up software programs, videos, temporary files, system files, or any file over 4GB. You can, however, easily backup any file you like by right-clicking and selecting ‘Back this up’ from the Carbonite menu.
External Hard Drive Backup – The Carbonite home product does not allow you to backup your external hard drive.
Archiving – Carbonite does not keep a copy of every version of every file you’ve ever created. We do however offer ‘versioning’ which allows you to recover some versions of your files, going back up to 90 days.
